TLC'S PRIMARY PROGRAM
MONTESSORI CLASS STRUCTURE

INTRODUCTION TO TLC'S CURRICULUM

TLC Academy's curriculum is designed based on the Montessori method of development of the child's whole personality and intellectual faculties. Our rich stimulating environment aims to develop the child in all aspects: social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional in a multicultural prospective.

Our total approach is to encourage independence, self-confidence and a sense of respect for peers, teachers and environment.

Art Work - enjoying
cutting and pasting

Creating the
binomial cube

  Individual student lessons

A child presents the spindle boxes work to
her teacher. (numbers/quantity association)

Creating a map of the world by studying the globe & coloring each continent.
Practical Life: In the Montessori classroom, Practical Life activities lay the foundation for the child's introduction to school. The purpose of these activities are to develop concentration, sense of order, independence, development of fine motor skills, respect for the environment and pride in a job well done.

Sensorial Education: Children have the desire to examine with their hands: "They can see through their hands." All the materials are purposefully designed and allow the child to compare, discriminate, contrast and distinguish. The main purpose of Sensorial Education is for your child's senses to become refined and to enable him/her to collect accurate information from the environment.

Language Arts: The Language Arts Program begins with the auditory training that helps your child become successful in blending sounds into words. Our program introduces the child to groups of letters and their corresponding sounds. However, the process of blending sounds into words is a long one and your child must be intellectually ready to successfully blend sounds together and recognize their meaning.

Mathematics: The "awakening" in the child's mathematical development happens when your child reaches an intellectual maturity and his mind ascends from purely sensorial explorations to measuring and counting. TLC's Mathematics Program is based on teaching mathematical problems and concepts through the use of manipulative Montessori materials. Moving from concrete to abstract, the understanding of quantity is the first mathematical problem your child faces.

Geography, Botany, Zoology: The purpose of science studies at the primary level is to encourage your child in his inherited curiosity and to permanently stimulate his interest in the fascinating world around us. Our teachers enrich your child's interest with monthly theme curriculum discussions, lessons, materials, displays and hands-on experiments which stimulate the intellectual development and curiosity of your child.

SPECIALTY CLASSES:

FOREIGN LANGUAGE

TLC offers foreign language and culture classes. The Foreign Language Program provides all children with the opportunity to speak, listen, and learn how to make simple, easy conversations. In our practical approach presentations your child is introduced to words and phrases useful in everyday life, numbers, riddles, poems and songs.

MUSIC

All students are engaged in singing, listening, and playing instruments. The fun, interesting activities designed for your child motivate expressive music making and building musical vocabulary. Your child is introduced to musical elements such as: pitch, tempo, dynamics, duration, and timbre. These elements are built into singing games, multicultural action songs, and movements.  Also included in the music program are all-school concerts.  Through the concerts the children are allowed the opportunity to develop their self confidence, become more comfortable with handling new situations and expand their creativity.

MOVEMENT

All students participate in structured physical activities in a small group setting on a weekly basis.  The activities are designed to build small and large muscle groups, coordination, develop teamwork, and build confidence.
